Specialties: Andean Guan, Andean & Rotshild’s Swifts, Large-tailed Dove, Blue-fronted Parrot, Blue-capped Puffleg, Streak-fronted & Spot-breasted Thornbirds, Ochre-cheeked Spinetail, Sharp-tailed Streamcreeper, Giant Antshrike, Slaty Gnateater, White-throated Antpitta, Bolivian Manakin, Olive-crowned Crescent-chest, Rufous Casiornis, Sclater’s and Buff-banded Tyrannulets, Andean Tyrant, White-capped Dipper, Golden-winged Cacique, Large-tailed Dove, Mitred Parakeet, Green-cheeked Parakeet, White-tipped Swift, Planalto Hermit, Slender-tailed Woodstar, Ocellated Piculet, Slaty Gnateater, Spot-breasted Thornbird, Ochre-cheeked Spinetail, Sharp-Tailed Streamcreeper, Streaked Xenops, White-winged Black-Tyrant, Cliff Flycatcher, Rusty-browed and Black-and-rufous Warbling-Finches, Yungas Manakin, etc. Giant Antshrike, Black-capped Antwren, White-backed Fire-eye and Olive-crowned Crescent-chest amongst others, explore the Podocarpus -native coniferous- forests for: Red-faced Guan, Alder Parrot, Blue-capped Puffleg, Slender-tailed Woodstar, White-throated Antpitta, Spot-breasted Thornbird, Sclater’s, Buff-banded and White-throated Tyrannulets, Ochre-faced Tody-Flycatcher, Andean Tyrant, the almost endemic Citron-headed Yellow-Finch, Rufous-sided Warbling-Finch, Golden-winged Cacique, while in waterfalls and nearby cliffs we hope to find Torrent Duck, White-collared Swift, Rothschild´s Swift, White-capped Dipper and others.
Day 1: We will start early, so upon arriving at the stream below El Fuerte (or the trail next to the Gas Duct) we will enjoy our breakfast. There will be the opportunity to explore the subtropical forest at the foot of cliffs that rise up towards the ruins, looking for: Andean Condor Large-tailed Dove, Mitred Parakeet, Green-cheeked Parakeet, White-tipped Swift, Planalto Hermit, Slender-tailed Woodstar, Ocellated Piculet, Slaty Gnateater, Spot-breasted Thornbird, Ochre-cheeked Spinetail, Sharp-Tailed Streamcreeper, Streaked Xenops, White-winged Black-Tyrant, Cliff Flycatcher, Rusty-browed and Black-and-rufous Warbling-Finches, Yungas Manakin, etc. Later in the morning we climb the mountain top to listen out for or even see Huayco Tinamou, Streak-fronted Thornbird, Giant Antshrike, Black-capped Antwren, White-backed Fire-eye and Olive-crowned Crescent-chest amongst others. After lunch in a restaurant back in Samaipata, we leave for Postrervalle, a village known for its traditional valley style architecture and given the name "Jardín de las Delicias" ("
Garden of
Delights "). Here we will explore the Podocarpus -native coniferous- forests for: Red-faced Guan, Alder Parrot, Blue-capped Puffleg, Slender-tailed Woodstar, White-throated Antpitta, Spot-breasted Thornbird, Sclater’s, Buff-banded and White-throated Tyrannulets, Ochre-faced Tody-Flycatcher, Andean Tyrant, the almost endemic Citron-headed Yellow-Finch, Rufous-sided Warbling-Finch, Golden-winged Cacique, while in waterfalls and nearby cliffs we hope to find Torrent Duck, White-collared Swift, Rothschild´s Swift, White-capped Dipper, etc. Dinner and overnight will be spent in Postrervalle.
Day 2: An early start as we make our way to Tierras Nuevas on the road to Vallegrande. During the morning we will have opportunity to spot birds we didn't see the previous afternoon such as Buff-necked Ibis, Military Macaw, Speckled Hummingbird, Slaty and Highland Elaenias, Rufous Casiornis, Southern Antpipit, Crested Becard, Slaty and Glossy-black Trushes, Pale-legged and Two-banded Warblers, Brown-capped Redstart, Rust-and-yellow Tanager, Rusty Flowerpiercer, Rufous-bellied Saltator, Fulvous-headed Brush-Finch, Black-and-rufous Warbling-Finch, etc. After lunch we return to Samaipata to visit the trail along the Pipeline, where we will find birds which inhabit lower altitudes such as Scaly-headed Parrott, Pale-vented pigeon, Buff-bellied Hermit, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, Sooty-fronted Spinetail, Short-tailed Anttrush, Yellow-olive Flycatcher, Golden-crowned Flycatcher, White-winged Becard, Yungas Manakin and Black-goggled Tanager.
