(BW 51) Intense Birding in 4WD to Interandean Valleys and Mountain Chaco |  |
Complete description:
We will start early, so upon arriving at the stream below El Fuerte (or the trail next to the Gas Duct) we will enjoy our breakfast. There will be the opportunity to explore the subtropical forest at the foot of cliffs that rise up towards the ruins, looking for: Andean Condor, Large-tailed Dove, Mitred Parakeet, Green-cheeked Parakeet, White-tipped Swift, Planalto Hermit, Slender-tailed Woodstar, Ocellated Piculet, Slaty Gnateater, Spot-breasted Thornbird, Ochre-cheeked Spinetail, Sharp-Tailed Streamcreeper, Streaked Xenops, White-winged Black-Tyrant, Cliff Flycatcher, Rusty-browed and Black-and-rufous Warbling-Finches, Yungas Manakin, etc.
Later in the morning we climb the mountain top to listen out for or even see Huayco Tinamou, Streak-fronted Thornbird, Giant Antshrike, Black-capped Antwren, White-backed Fire-eye and Olive-crowned Crescent-chest amongst others. Lunch will be eaten in Latina café in Samaipata.
After lunch we will travel towards the semi-arid cacti bush land of Mataral. Thus, allowing us the afternoon to see birds such as Dusky-legged Guan, Harris’s Hawk, Blue-crowned Parakeet, White-bellied Hummingbird, Spot-backed Puffbird, Cream-backed Woodpecker, White-fronted Woodpecker, Narrow-billed Woodcreeper, endemic Bolivian Earthcreeper, Stripe-crowned Spinetail, Barred and Rufous-capped Antshrikes, White-bellied Tyrannulet, Greater Wagtail-Tyrant, Crowned Slaty-Flycatcher, White-tipped Plantcutter, Purple-throated Euphonia, Black-capped and Ringed Warbling-Finches, Red-crested and Grey-crested Finches, Saffron-billed Sparrow, Ultramarine Grosbeak, Golden-billed Saltator and Black-backed Grosbeak.
Late afternoon we head back to Samaipata, with ample opportunities to see on route the Buff-necked Ibis, White-tipped Dove, Picui and Ruddy Ground-Doves, Blue-fronted Parrot, Purplish and Plush-crested Jays, Bay-winged and Shiny Cowbirds.

This tour DOES NOT includes: Transfer from-to Samaipata. Sodas and alcoholic drinks, cigarettes and candies, tips, phone or internet communication, laundry service, breakfast the first day; neither dinner nor hotel the last night.
NOTES: We accept payment in Bs, Є and US$ as well as Travellers Cheques & Credit Cards (ask). Please note in Samaipata you can only change US$/Bs in the Exchange Bureau. Also available an ATM facility from Mon to Fri, please bring national currency for extras. Notify us if you like to add one day per week to this program in rainy season, just in case one day we cannot leave, or to review the most interesting place, or to relax the pace a little.
