Complete description:
A ¾ day long trip, ideal for those who want to combine the visit to the carved rock and ruins of El Fuerte (Half-day Tour FU 01) with an interpretive hike to 5 strategic lookout points i.e. the external crop terraces, the Incan Trail, the Baño de Las Ñustas (Bath of the Inca Princesses) and La Cumbre, which completes the mountains’ archaeo-ecological panorama. A 45 min. jeep ride (both ways) up a dirt road + 2 hours’ easy hike takes you to the carved rock and main ruins of El Fuerte, the most Important archaeological site in eastern : El Fuerte is recognized as a historical and cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO and includes one of the world´s largest carved monolith. For thousands of years this site served as a ceremonial center for various pre-Colombian cultures, ultimately including the Inca who erected great temples and turned the site into the capital of the eastern most reaching province of their empire. Getting to know the other attractions (the 5 lookouts, i.e. outer Terraces, Inca Trail, tiered waterfall, Baño de las Ñustas and La Cumbre) requires 2 to 3 hours of intermediate walking. But don’t worry about getting too tired to continue, as the flowerlike design of this trip allows you to quit at any time.
