(BW 56) Intense Birding, 4WD to Interandean Valley & Cloud forest. From Samaipata to Mataral, Saipina, Siberia, Amboró NP. Overnight in Tambo or Comarapa.

Specialties: like BW 52-IN, BW 53-IN and: Black-hooded Sunbeam, Violet-throated Starfrontlet, Scaled Metaltail, Red-billed Parrot, Hooded Mountain-Toucan, Crimson-mantled Woodpecker, Smoky-brown Woodpecker, Strong-billed Woodcreeper, Light-crowned Spinetail, Black-throated Thistletail, Rufous-faced Antpitta, Trilling Tapaculo, Band-tailed Fruiteater, Chestnut-bellied Mountain-Tanager, White-browed Conebill, Gray-bellied Flowerpiercer and others.

Day 1: We will start early, so upon arriving at the stream below El Fuerte (or the trail next to the Gas Duct) we will enjoy our breakfast. There will be the opportunity to explore the subtropical forest at the foot of cliffs that rise up towards the ruins, looking for: Andean Condor, Large-tailed Dove, Mitred Parakeet, Green-cheeked Parakeet, White-tipped Swift, Planalto Hermit, Slender-tailed Woodstar, Ocellated Piculet, Slaty Gnateater, Spot-breasted Thornbird, Ochre-cheeked Spinetail, Sharp-Tailed Streamcreeper, Streaked Xenops, Rusty-browed and Black-and-rufous Warbling-Finches, Yungas Manakin, etc. Later in the morning we climb the mountain top to listen out for or even see Huayco Tinamou, Streak-fronted Thornbird, Giant Antshrike, Black-capped Antwren, White-backed Fire-eye and Olive-crowned Crescent - chest amongst others. Around midday we’ll start travelling to Saipina, through semi-arid scenery (cacti desert). Upon arrival in Saipina we’ll have lunch in a restaurant or continue to have picnic at the next stop. After lunch, we will continue to visit a watered isolated oasis, which is set amongst the shadows of multi-colored cliffs and is home to 4 endemics we hope to see: Red-fronted Macaw, Cliff Parakeet, Bolivian Blackbird, Bolivian Earthcreeper, Yellow-chevroned Parakeet, White-winged Black-Tyrant, Cliff Flycatcher, etc. As dusk approaches we will make for Comarapa where we will stay overnight in Hotel Paraíso (or in the Mission of Tambo). This route will allow us to see birds such as Harris’s Hawk, Ruddy and Picui Ground-Doves, Blue-fronted Parrot, Cream-backed Woodpecker, White-bellied Tyrannulet, Bay-winged and Shiny Cowbirds, Ultramarine Grosbeak.

Day 2: Sunrise walk to the entrance of Kharawasi where we will enjoy breakfast while hearing Hooded and Brown Tinamous, Andean Guan, Crested Quetzal, Blue-banded Toucanet, Hooded Mountain-Toucan, Streaked Tuftedcheek, the endemic Rufous-faced Antpitta, White-throated Antpitta, Thrilling Tapaculo, Barred and Band-tailed Fruiteaters, White-eared and Andean Solitaires, Slaty and Glossy-black Trushes. During the morning we could also see: Solitary and Black-and-Chestnut Eagles, Collared Inca, Violet-fronted Starfrontlet, endemic Black-hooded Sunbeam, Black-winged and Red-billed Parrots, Crimson-mantled, Red-necked and Smoky-Brown Woodpeckers, Strong-billed and Montane Woodcreepers, Pearled Treerunner, Azara’s Spinetail, Light-crowned Spinetail, Tawny-rumped, Buff-banded, White-throated and Sclater’s Tyrannulets, Andean Tyrant, Chestnut-belted and Rufous-breasted Chat-Tyrants, Chestnut-crested and Red-crested Cotingas, Yungas Manakin, Pale-legged and Three-striped Warblers, Blue-winged Mountain-Tanager, Saffron-crowned and Green-throated Tanagers, White-fronted Conebill, Rufous-napped Brush-Finch, etc. Picnic will be in the dwarf forest of La Siberia , this change of habitat will give us a chance to observe endemic species such as Black-hooded Sunbeam and Black-throated Thistletail, as well as Scaled Metaltail, D´Orbiny´s Chat-Tyrant, Pale-legged Swallow, Chestnut-bellied and Scarlet-bellied Mountain-Tanagers, White-browed and Blue-backed Conebills, Gray-bellied Flowerpiercer, Spectacled Redstart, amongst others. After lunch we come back down to the semi-arid cacti region of Mataral, where during the afternoon can be seen Blue-crowned Parakeet, White-bellied Hummingbird, Spot-backed Puffbird, Cream-backed Woodpecker, White-fronted Woodpecker, Narrow-billed Woodcreeper, endemic Bolivian Earthcreeper, Stripe-crowned Spinetail, Barred Antshrike, Greater Wagtail-Tyrant, Crowned Slaty-Flycatcher, White-tipped Plantcutter, Purple-throated Euphonia, Black-capped and Ringed Warbling-Finches, Red-crested and Gray-crested Finches, Saffron-billed Sparrow and Black-backed Grosbeak. As dusk approaches we return to Samaipata, with good chances of seeing on route Buff-necked Ibis, White-tipped Dove, Purplish and Plush-crested Jays

This tour DOES NOT includes: Transfer from-to Samaipata. Sodas and alcoholic drinks, cigarettes and candies, tips, phone or internet communication, laundry service, breakfast the first day; neither dinner nor hotel the last night.
